Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a widely used fertility treatment in which washed and concentrated motile sperm are directly injected into the uterine cavity. The goal is to increase the number of sperm reaching the fallopian tubes, thereby enhancing the chances of fertilization.
IUI is often considered a cost-effective, less invasive first-line treatment before progressing to more advanced methods like IVF.
Who Is Eligible for IUI?
Patients must meet the following criteria to be considered suitable candidates for IUI:
- Ovulation must occur in the treatment cycle.
- At least one open fallopian tube must be confirmed.
- A sufficient number of motile sperm must be available.
- There must be no active pelvic or uterine infection.
